Jeff Smitherman

Jeff serves as the managing partner of Trusted Capital Partners and a Registered Representative of Saxony Securities, Inc. He brings integrity, strategic vision, and principle-based leadership from a career of service as a Marine Corps officer into a career serving as a trusted resource for clients with appreciated investment properties.
Specializing in personalized and tax-smart strategies for property owners as well as asset-based giving solutions for philanthropy, he established Trusted Capital Partners to address the challenge of capturing and wisely investing capital gains when any property is sold, especially with older owners and those in the farm and ranch space.
For many property owners there are two big questions up front, “How can I address taxes if I sell?” and, “How can I protect my capital and generate income?” Jeff regularly combines 1031 tax deferred exchanges with Delaware Statutory Trusts and other alternative investments to enable clients' long-term financial success, including estate planning and giving.

Jeff also specializes in non-profit strategies, including planned giving using DSTs combined with
charitable remainder trusts and donor-advised funds.
A fifth-generation Texan, Jeff graduated from Texas A&M University in Agriculture Economics and holds advanced degrees in national security. He holds FINRA Series 63 and 22 securities licenses and is a member of the Realtors Land Institute (RLI) and the Texas Alliance of Land Brokers (TALB).
He serves on the Board of Directors for Patrol Base Abbate, a non-profit supporting the entire veteran community, and is a member of Tun Tavern Fellowship, a faith-based organization for Marines. He is married with three sons and enjoys the outdoors, good friends, and spending time on his family farm. His diverse experiences and commitment to service make him a trusted resource in the investment industry.

Malcolm T. Hartman

Malcolm Hartman brings more than three decades of entrepreneurial leadership and real estate expertise to Trusted Capital Partners’ mission of providing trusted, tax-advantaged strategies for owners of appreciated property. He is a Registered Representative of Saxony Securities, Inc. and holds FINRA Series 63 and 22 securities licenses.
Throughout his career, Malcolm has developed extensive experience in business ownership, commercial leasing, and strategic property acquisition. His professional background includes serving as Director and President of Hartman Properties, Inc., and as Chief Financial Officer and Co-Operating Partner of multiple Texas-based restaurant ventures.
Drawing on decades of ownership and management experience, Malcolm offers a unique ability to understand his clients’ perspectives and provide guidance grounded in real-world insight.
He remains active in civic and community leadership, having served two terms on the Board of Directors for the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone for Midtown TIRZ-32.
Malcolm resides in San Antonio with his wife, Amber, and their three children. Outside the office, he enjoys mountain biking, time outdoors, and fellowship with family and friends.

Walter Montague

Walter Montague brings more than three decades of commercial real estate experience to Trusted Capital Partners, with a background spanning property valuation, underwriting, asset management, and investment sales across multiple property types. His experience includes retail, multifamily, industrial, land, and office assets, serving both institutional and private investors nationwide.
Throughout his career, Walter has worked on all sides of the real estate transaction. He has held senior roles at national brokerage firms, including Cushman & Wakefield and National Apartment Advisors, where he focused on acquisition and disposition strategy, underwriting, valuation oversight, and complex transaction execution. Over time, he has been involved in more than 100 commercial real estate transactions with aggregate values exceeding $1 billion.
In addition to brokerage and advisory work, Walter brings an owner-operator perspective that closely aligns with the clients Trusted Capital Partners serves. He is a Principal and Board Member of Crawford Austin Properties, a privately held real estate firm that owns and manages industrial and retail properties throughout Texas. In this role, he has spent decades evaluating long-term strategy, capital structure, financing decisions, and the practical challenges faced by property owners as assets mature, transition, or are passed to the next generation.
At Trusted Capital Partners, Walter partners with property owners to evaluate liquidity events, tax exposure, and reinvestment options with clarity and discipline. His experience in valuation, financial modeling, and debt structuring allows him to assess Delaware Statutory Trusts and other real estate securities from an owner’s perspective, with an emphasis on capital preservation, risk management, and long-term alignment. He works closely with owners of legacy, family-held, and income-producing properties to help navigate important transition decisions.
Walter earned his MBA in Finance from the University of Houston’s Bauer School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has been a licensed Texas Real Estate Broker since 1994 and remains actively involved in commercial real estate ownership and advisory work. He resides in Waco, Texas, with his wife and family and enjoys staying active, reading, and spending time outdoors.
